Afrocentric Internship curriculum - Social Media department

1-6 months duration


This Afrocentric 6-month structured curriculum is designed to equip our interns with in-depth knowledge of social media marketing, content creation, brand growth, and digital monetization. Through weekly tasks, mentorship sessions, and project-based learning, interns will develop hands-on skills needed to manage, optimize, and grow social media platforms effectively.


Month 1: Introduction to Social Media & Digital Branding

Focus: Understanding Social Media Ecosystem

  • Overview of Social Media Platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube)
  • Fundamentals of Branding & Social Media Positioning
  • Understanding Social Media Algorithms & Trends
  • Weekly Task: Audit & Present an Analysis of your personal Social Media Presence

Month 2: Content Creation & Storytelling for Engagement

Focus: Developing Engaging & High-Performing Content

  • Types of Content: Text, Images, Videos, Stories, Reels, & Live Streaming
  • Social Media Aesthetics & Visual Identity
  • Basics of Graphic Design & Video Editing (Canva, CapCut, InShot, etc.)
  • Writing Captions & Hashtags for Maximum Reach
  • Weekly Task: Create & Post a Themed Social Media Campaign for Afrocentric

Month 3: Social Media Growth & Community Building

Focus: Strategies to Increase Followers, Engagement & Retention

  • Organic Growth vs Paid Advertising
  • Social Media Engagement Strategies (Polls, Q&A, Challenges)
  • How to Build & Maintain an Active Online Community
  • Weekly Task: Develop & Execute a Community Engagement Plan

Month 4: Social Media Advertising & Monetization

Focus: Running Ads & Earning from Social Media

  • Basics of Meta & Google Ads (Targeting, Budgeting, Optimization)
  • Affiliate Marketing, Sponsorships, & Monetization Methods
  • Influencer Marketing & Collaboration Strategies
  • Weekly Task: Create an Ad Campaign Proposal for Afrocentric Fashion or Entertainment Event

Month 5: Analytics, Performance Tracking & Crisis Management

Focus: Measuring Success & Managing Challenges

  • Understanding Social Media Analytics & Insights
  • How to Track, Report, & Improve Performance Metrics
  • Handling Negative Feedback, PR Crises & Online Reputation Management
  • Weekly Task: Analyze Afrocentric's Engagement Data & Suggest Improvements

Month 6: Capstone Project & Career Development

Focus: Real-World Application & Certification

  • Final Project: Interns will create a full-fledged social media campaign for Afrocentric, including:
    • Content Calendar
    • Growth Strategy
    • Engagement Plan
    • Paid Ad Strategy
  • Presentation & Evaluation by Industry Experts
  • Certificate of Completion & Letter of Recommendation
